AUDIO TRANSFER & DIGITIZATION

Bring Old Voices and Recordings Back to Life

A photograph can show you what someone looked like. An old recording can let you hear their voice again.

Memory Fortress provides professional audio transfer and digitization for cassettes, microcassettes, reel-to-reel tapes and vinyl records.

Your recordings are handled in-house by our own team and returned with digital files your family can listen to, save and share again.

OLD AUDIO, MODERN FILES

What Audio Formats Can We Digitize?

Not sure what kind of recording you have? That is completely normal. These are some of the audio formats customers bring or ship to us most often.

Standard audio cassette tapes
AUDIO TAPE
Cassette Tapes
Standard audio cassettes were widely used for family recordings, interviews, music, spoken messages and other personal audio.
Micro cassette tapes
SMALL-FORMAT TAPE
Microcassettes
Much smaller than a standard cassette, microcassettes were commonly used in handheld recorders for interviews, meetings, notes and personal messages.
Audio Reels
OPEN-REEL AUDIO
Reel-to-Reel Tape
Reel-to-reel audio typically uses brown magnetic tape wound onto open reels in several different sizes. Family recordings, music and performances are common.
Vinyl Records
VINYL & RECORDS
33, 45 & 78 RPM Records
We transfer 33, 45 and 78 RPM records to digital audio so you can listen without relying on the original record or a turntable.
Still not sure what you have? Call 678-579-2249 or contact us . A photo is often all we need to help identify an unusual format.

Audio CD
Prefer a traditional listening format? Audio CD delivery is also available for customers who want a physical disc they can play in standard CD players.
Not sure which delivery option is best? We are happy to help you choose the easiest format for listening, storing and sharing your recordings.
MORE THAN JUST OLD TAPE

Some Recordings Cannot Be Recreated

Old audio often holds things that photographs cannot: the sound of a parent’s voice, a child singing, a family interview, a wedding toast, a church service or a performance that happened only once.

Once those recordings are digitized, they become much easier to hear again, copy, organize and share with the people who will value them most.

The recordings families send us often include:
  • Parents or grandparents telling family stories
  • Children speaking or singing when they were young
  • Weddings, anniversaries and family gatherings
  • School concerts, recitals and performances
  • Church services, sermons and community events
  • Personal messages recorded decades ago
  • Original music and one-of-a-kind recordings
A photograph preserves a face. A recording can preserve a voice.

NOT EVERYTHING ARRIVES PERFECT

Damaged or Unusual Recordings?

Older audio can arrive with broken shells, loose tape, damaged reels or formats that are difficult to identify. Do not assume a recording is lost just because it looks rough.

Damaged Tapes May Still Be Recoverable
Some cassette and reel-to-reel problems can be repaired or stabilized well enough for transfer. We evaluate the recording first and let you know if additional work may be needed.
Not Sure What You Have?
That is completely normal. If you have an unusual tape, reel, record or recorder format, send us a photo or give us a call and we will help identify it before you place your order.

QUESTIONS ARE NORMAL

Audio Transfer FAQs

You do not need to understand old audio formats before getting started. Here are answers to some of the questions customers ask us most often.

What audio formats can you digitize?
We digitize standard audio cassettes, microcassettes, reel-to-reel tapes, and 33, 45 and 78 RPM records. If you have something unusual and are not sure what it is, send us a photo or give us a call.
What kind of digital files will I receive?
Most digital delivery is provided as MP3 files. Those files can be placed on a USB flash drive or provided by digital download. Audio CD delivery is also available for customers who prefer a traditional physical disc.
Do I get my original tapes, reels and records back?
Yes. Your original recordings are returned to you when your project is complete, along with the digital delivery method you selected.
Can you work with damaged tapes?
In some cases, yes. Broken cassette shells, loose tape, damaged reels and other issues may sometimes be repairable or stabilizable well enough for transfer. We evaluate the item first and let you know if additional work may be needed.
Do I need to know exactly what kind of recording I have?
No. Many customers are not sure what format they have, especially with older reels and small cassette formats. A photo, description or quick phone call is often enough for us to help identify it.
How long does audio transfer take?
Turnaround depends on the type, condition and quantity of recordings in your project. Larger collections and damaged or unusual formats may take longer. We can give you a better estimate once we know what you have.
Can I ship my recordings to you?
Yes. Most Memory Fortress customers ship their materials to us. We recommend sturdy packaging and a major carrier with tracking. Once your recordings arrive, they are checked in and handled by our in-house team.
Can I bring my recordings to you in person?
Yes. Local customers are welcome to bring their recordings to our Atlanta location at 2250 North Druid Hills Road NE, Suite 128, Atlanta, GA 30329.
Can you transfer commercially released music?
Commercially released music and other copyrighted material may be subject to copyright restrictions. Personal recordings, family interviews, original performances and other one-of-a-kind recordings are generally the best fit. If you are unsure, contact us before sending the item.
